Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, expert finance specialist with an affinity for War Child's mission. Someone who works accurately and ensures that War Child Netherlands' financial administration is in perfect order. You will provide reports, process transactions, focus on purchasing and tenders, VAT, and financial management. You will work closely with the Institutional Fundraising team, managing the financial project administration and advising the team on donor regulations. You will also frequently interact with your Finance colleagues within the War Child Alliance and maintain frequent contact with other internal and external stakeholders. This is a highly varied role in which you can use your experience and organizational skills to build a foundation on which the organization can rely. There is room for development within this position.

Your responsibilities: The Finance team is part of War Child Netherlands' Operations team. You will report to the Head of Operations and manage two Finance Officers. Together, you will form the Finance Team as part of War Child Netherlands, where fundraising for our programs for children growing up with the effects of war is central.

  • You are responsible for the financial administrative organisation (approximately 40% of your time) and for sound financial management surrounding institutional (Projects) and private (non-earmarked) fundraising (approximately 60% of your time);
  • You independently prepare the annual accounts of War Child Netherlands with accompanying specifications and audit files;
  • You act as the first point of contact for and coordinate audits;
  • You proactively identify bottlenecks in administrative and control processes and continuously strive for improvements to limit risks and increase efficiency;
  • You coordinate accounting tasks in accordance with War Child's internal control system and provide information on bookings, analyses and reports proactively and on request;
  • You understand and are alert to updates of internal rules and procedures and of external (donor) requirements that are relevant to the financial administration;
  • You are the point of contact for compliance with tax legislation, including VAT and all banking-related matters; 
  • You manage two Finance Officers and are responsible for the training and coaching of your team;
  • Together with the Finance Officers, you are responsible for effective salary processing for all War Child Netherlands employees.

Your profile

  • Relevant education(s);
  • Experience in a (Business) Controller role —> delete; Experience in preparing annual accounts, pre-compliant with guideline 650
  • Experience with and knowledge of financial requirements of institutional donors, in particular the Dutch government and DG ECHO
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Exact; 
  • Expertise in the administrative side of a financial system;
  • An eye for detail and good organizational skills; 
  • Excellent command of the Dutch language and good knowledge of the English language;
  • You fully support the objectives of War Child;
  • You are proactive, eager to learn and like to get things done;
  • Available for 32-40 hours per week.

What we offer

  • Salary ranges from €4305 to €5353 gross per month, based on 40 hours per week (the exact amount is determined by the years of your relevant work experience);
  • 8% holiday allowance based on the annual salary;
  • A 40-hour employment contract;
  • 29 days of vacation per year on a full-time basis (of which 3 pre-determined days off);
