Edukans is committed to improving the quality of education through three programmes: Basic Education, Skills for Youth & Work, and Education in Emergencies. These education programmes are implemented in four focus countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda, as well as through a number of projects in other countries. Edukans works in Cross-border Teams and has an International Management Team.

The purpose of the Programmes team is to develop and maintain programme strategies, modalities and manage strategic partnerships for our programmes and cross-cutting themes, and to strengthen, and support country offices in the transformation to project design and implementation. The role

The Programme Manager is responsible for designing and realising strategic Skills for work & life programmes and ensuring that our Skills programmes are rolled out in multiple countries in collaboration with our teams across several countries and aligned with Edukans' organisational objectives.

The interventions included in a programme are based on local needs assessments and focus on training and education of education professionals, development of training materials, knowledge transfer, research, education, (organisational) development, campaigns and cooperation with other parties. When necessary, you will travel to the country offices. You will be part of our Programme team consisting of ten colleagues.

Your main responsibilities

1. Develop programme and strategy for Skills for Work & Life:

  • Responsible for designing and contributing to Edukans educational programs and strategies focused on equipping youth with essential skills for work and life.
  • Ensuring alignment with Edukans’ emphasis on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Climate and Sustainability, and Digitalisation.
  • Responsible for designing, conducting research, innovating, and validating approaches for skills development interventions.
  • Tracking emerging trends and key developments in youth skills for work and life and integrating them into the programme strategy and education methodologies.
  • Inspire and contribute to the deliverables of the Edukans global Community of Practice of experts.

2. Managing programmes:

  • Support Edukans global teams in implementing programmes and strategies.
  • Ensure programme quality through effective planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Support the adoption of project-based working in Edukans.
  • Enhance the quality of programme - and project implementation.
  • Align with and respond to innovative and thematic developments within the sector.

3. Secure funding opportunities:

  • Collaborate with fundraisers and contribute to fundraising efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for additional funding and alternative financing models.
  • Coordinate, develop, and review funding proposals.

4. Networking and collaboration

  • Identify and maintain relationships with key decision-making and influential organisations.
  • Contribute to developing and operationalising strategic partnerships with external parties.
  • Represent Edukans within relevant networks.
  • Foster connections among all Edukans teams and partners globally.

Your profile

We would like to engage with you if you:

  • Have bachelor or master level working and thinking and extensive experience in design, implement, and manage educational programmes in a complex, international setting.
  • You have knowledge and experience with developing teaching methodologies and tools.
  • Have experience in skills and vocational education programme development and skills methodologies.
  • You are familiar with the use of modern technologies.
  • Expertise and affinity with our cross-cutting themes - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Climate and Sustainability, or Digitalisation - is an asset
  • Are an excellent writer of programme and project proposals.
  • Switch easily between strategy and operational support.
  • Take initiative, think in possibilities and set the bar high.
  • You are entrepreneurial, innovative and culturally sensitive.
  • Able to ensure that all stakeholders know what is going on and needed.
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English; French is an advantage.
