Inhoud

The European Union is a vast maze of policy and programs. The purpose of this event is informing (Dutch) Civil Society Organisations about one in particular: Global Gateway. What is Global Gateway? What is its goal? How can Dutch Civil Society get involved with Global Gateway? And how can we make this involvement into a succes? How can the private sector cooperate with CSOs? Our experts will present their knowledge and answer all your questions.

In cooperation with our members and European network, Partos is organizing a session to answer all your questions regarding Global Gateway. Or, for those new to this topic, provide you with a concrete introduction.

Global Gateway is a European strategy headed by the European Commission to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport sectors and to strengthen health, education and research systems across the world. It is often presented as the alternative for China’s Belt and Road Initiative. However, does Global Gateway only serve the interests of EU business or does it retain her development goals? And what is the reception of this program in the Global South?

During the session we will discuss Global Gateway from several points of view:

  • Introduction to Global Gateway – can EU’s interests be reconciled with development goals?
  • Who profits from Global Gateway? The Risks of diverting EU Aid budget to big business
  • CSO involvement at the European level
  • The approach from the Netherlands

Our speakers from different disciplines include:

  • Pauline Veron, ECDPM
  • Antonio Gambini, Oxfam EU
  • Jaime Just, Concord Europe
  • Hannah Idema, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

After the presentations there will be room for questions and discussion. We will end the event with networking drinks. We welcome you to join the event in person at the Hague Humanity Hub. It will also be possibly to follow the presentations online.

This event is organized in cooperation with Hivos, Cordaid, Woord & Daad, VSO and Rutgers.
