Donorretentie, donor journeys, geïntegreerde communicatie, persona's en tevredenheidsonderzoeken... Donorretentie is tegenwoordig een hot item. Goed donateursbehoud is inderdaad cruciaal om je fondsenwerving duurzaam te maken. Toch slagen veel organisaties er niet in om schenkers aan zich te binden.

Hoe doe je het dan wel? Wat moeten we doen om ervoor te zorgen dat schenkers blijven. Goed donateurbehoud draait om een goede interactie tussen de frontoffice en backoffice van de fondsenwervingsafdeling, tussen creatieve storytelling en data-analyse. We gaan dieper in op wat een donor journey is en hoe deze te ontwikkelen.

In deze opleiding brengen we alle inzichten over donorbehoud samen en gaan we na welke volgende stappen je in jouw organisatie kunt zetten om je schenkersrelaties te versterken.

Deze opleiding wordt gegeven door Ilja De Coster, vice-voorzitter van de Fundraisers Alliance Belgium en senior fundraising consultant. Al meer dan 20 jaar ondersteunt hij de fondsenwerving van verschillende grote en kleinere organisaties. Hij is directeur Donor Relationship Management en Data Strategy bij The DonorVoice.

ERNOP: Philanthropies’ Capabilities in Addressing Global Problems: Mapping the SDG Landscape

This ERNOP Science and Society webinar will explore the role of civil society organizations and philanthropic foundations in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over a decade after their adoption, progress toward the 2030 targets remains significantly off track, raising urgent questions about how nonprofit actors can most effectively support their achievement.

In the first part of the webinar, Dominik Meier of the Center for Philanthropy Studies at the University of Basel will present an overview of what the research literature tells us about civil society’s contributions to the SDGs, including roles such as service delivery, advocacy, localization, and monitoring. He will also address structural challenges such as shrinking civic space and the gap between participatory rhetoric and meaningful influence.

In the second part, Dominik will present findings from a recent study that uses a large language model to analyze nearly 50,000 US nonprofit mission statements through the lens of the SDGs. The resulting typology reveals how different types of nonprofits align with sustainability goals, how missions span multiple SDGs simultaneously, and where the sector appears to be underengaged. Participants will gain insights into how the SDGs can serve as a strategic tool for articulating organizational missions, identifying partners across sectors, and spotting areas where philanthropic engagement could make a greater difference.

The interactive Q&A session will give participants the opportunity to discuss how these findings can be applied in their own work.

About Dominik Meier

Dominik Meier is an Assistant Professor of Global Philanthropy at the University of Basel and Visiting Researcher at the Gradel Institute of Charity at the University of Oxford. He explores individual and institutional philanthropy through the use of big data, machine learning, and natural language processing. His current work focuses on prosocial behaviors such as giving and volunteering, and how philanthropy can support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Center for Philanthropy Studies (CEPS) at the University of Basel is an interdisciplinary research and executive education institute focused on the non-profit sector and the many dimensions of philanthropy. The Philea Forum 2026 will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark on 18-21 May, exploring “Philanthropy for People and Planet”, hosted by a group of Danish foundations.

The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the way we live. All elements critical to the current and future health and harmony of this, our only planet, and the people, flora and fauna depending on it. The oceans, the rainforests, the deserts, the towns and the cities. Where we live, and how we live, has never been more important.

The Philea Forum 2026 will convene a global gathering of delegates to inspire open discussions on:

Philanthropy’s role and responsibility in supporting equitable and just transitions and helping achieve greater adaptability, resilience, sustainability and shared prosperity while remaining courageous in the face of ongoing setbacks
How the theme of people and planet bridges to every area of philanthropic work, regardless of place or population, and where critical challenges are treated as interconnected, rather than autonomous, areas of work
How we move forward from identifying the causes of challenging issues – which in many cases are already well-known – to implementing the solutions, translating insights into initiatives
How our behaviour as a sector is critical, not only in terms of what we do but how we do are doing it, particularly given the tensions between maximising financial returns and minimising harm to people and planet

The group of Danish foundations includes the Augustinus Foundation, Bikuben Foundation, Carlsberg Foundation, Hempel Foundation, Knowledge Centre for Danish Foundations, Lego Foundation, Leo Foundation, Lundbeck Foundation, Nordea-fonden, Nordic Culture Fund, Novo Nordisk Foundation, Ramboll Foundation, Realdania, Trygfonden, Velux Foundation and Villum Foundation.

To ensure as many Philea members and associates as possible can attend the Philea Forum, registration will be exclusively open to Philea members and associates until 28 February, with registration opening to the wider sector after this date.

Registration closes on 4 May, however, given limited capacity, it may close earlier if capacity is reached.

This ERNOP Science and Society webinar explores power dynamics between civil society organisations (CSOs) and philanthropic actors. Drawing on insights from a working group convened by the French Institute for Civil Society Organisations to explore future challenges and knowledge needs of CSOs, Floriant Covelli will examine power dynamics and asymmetries between civil society organisations and grantmakers in the context of private giving.

The session addresses key questions: What kinds of power imbalances emerge, and how can they be better understood and managed? Does private funding enhance CSOs’ autonomy or create new forms of dependence and accountability? How can this relationship be understood within the triptych of CSOs, grantmakers, and public authorities? What do evaluation mechanisms reveal about the relational dynamics between CSOs and grantmakers? How are these dynamics reflected in the socio-economic models of CSOs? What role does trust play in the relationship between private giving and CSOs, and in their shared contribution to democracy? Can more localized forms of engagement help reduce the asymmetry within this relationship?

Designed to bridge research and practice, the webinar invites an open conversation with room for questions and exchange, especially for practitioners navigating these dynamics in their daily work.

Floriant Covelli is Managing Director of the French Institute for Civil Society Organisations (IFMA) since its founding in 2019. With over 20 years at a major French foundation, he shaped territorial philanthropy strategies and public interest initiatives. He now fosters research and participatory approaches that strengthen ties between philanthropy, civic actors, and academia in the pursuit of producing knowledge that responds to the needs of the civil society sector in France and beyond.
